The GSC Hummelbird

Welcome graphic

The Engineering department at GSC has a lunchtime 'extra-curricular' activity involving a small group of keen students.
We are building a small "homebuilt" aircraft. It is a plans built single seat aircraft of Aluminium construction, utilising a 1/2 Volkswagen motor to drive the propeller. The 'Hummelbird' is named after Morry Hummel of Bryan Ohio USA, who designed it.
Here is a picture of one-

The aircraft is an appealing project due to its aesthetic appearance, small compact size, and its unique 1/2 Volkswagen (sawn in half!)engine.

The group is made up of handpicked students that demonstrate a particular interest in Engineering Metalwork and willingness to work as a team.
Tis project has plenty of compnent parts too keep lots of busy hands working and extends on principles taught in Technology Studies classes.
